For paddlers, birders and nature walkers, Beaver Creek is something close to paradise. You can launch your own kayak from Ona Beach or take a summer guided kayak tour. Paddlers enter a park rich in bird life—bald eagles, flycatchers, osprey—and other wildlife such as beaver and river otter. You also have a chance to see salmon and steelhead, and lush wetland plant communities. After navigating two miles upstream, paddlers can turn into hikers. A trail leads from a landing to a seven-mile network of upland trails. A hilltop viewpoint offers views of the coast range and the ocean.

The Butterfly Effect brings women together for noncompetitive ocean sport gatherings in coastal cities all over the world. The aim is to instill self-confidence and a love for the ocean in women of all skill levels. The Butterfly Effect also aims to work with the local community and offer free lessons/clinics for women and children. The Butterfly Effect began in Hawaii in 2007 by water women, Tatiana Howard and Juliana Shelef. Since then it Tatiana and/or Juliana have flown to organize the event in Brazil, New Zealand, France, Oregon, Germany, Tahiti, Dominican Republic and Australia for group surf sessions and clinics. The main sports have been windsurfing, stand-up paddle, and kiting but does not limit itself to other sports that have been done such as wake boarding, surf, and kayak. Each gathering also includes safety and stretching sessions, as well as food and gear from local sponsors and fund raising for local charities. Hundreds of women around the world have already participated in these fun and non-competitive gatherings. The Butterfly Effect is becoming the world wide water women phenomena. Join in on the fun that is good for you and at the same time helping others. Check out the upcoming effects link to see if there are any Butterfly Effects coming near you! Dominican Republic had its’ first Butterfly Effect in Cabarete. It was held on July 22, 2009. Please check out the Butterfly Effects’ website www.betheeffect.com for the upcoming events.
